It's been a rough week for Silliman IMs - we won all the possible winter IM points in several sports, but our playoff runs just seemed cursed. Nevertheless, our dedicated IM secretaries keep smiling because we know Silliman is right on pace to clinch another Tyng Cup in the near future =D
Angel the "Sillimander" bringing cold Gatorade to our thirsty athletes =PMen's Volleyball: The guys crushed TD on Monday, only to lose in a heartbreaking championship game Tuesday against JE. Still, lots of good photos =P
Women's Volleyball: I don't know who had the bright idea of having both semifinals and playoffs on the same night, but our team was at a serious disadvantage in the championship match against Berkeley, having toughed out a long three-game semifinal against a very good Ezra Stiles team.
C-hoops: This was supposed to have been the final triumph for a scrappy team that didn't lose a game all season, even after captain Stephen Kappa twisted an ankle and was forced to finish the season coaching from the sidelines. Something just didn't click, and Morse played very well to claim the championship. I have a special soft spot for C-hoops since two of the guys living next door play on the team (one of them is in the tip-off photo below)
A-hoops: These guys were a "dream team" that also dominated everyone else the whole season. They were even down 12-0 at the beginning of the semifinal game, but still came back (almost casually) to crush Trumbull. On the championship night, though, it went into triple overtime...and JE won by four points =(
In honor of the volleyball/basketball playoff runs, a short video of highlights from the season:
On the brighter side, inner-tube water polo clinched the championship by default - Saybrook only had 3 players show up for the last match! Instead, it was a fun time playing ourselves (which confused me for a moment when I got there to take photos). Congrats to senior captains Kelly and Kendra!
I unfortunately missed the Duke's Men "Spring Break" jam Friday night because my seminar professor took us all out to dinner (which was very interesting), but Saturday afternoon I managed to catch an amazing production of "Little Shop of Horrors" in the Off-Broadway Theater. Seriously though, these guys were good enough to be on Broadway - they even had a set of Audrey II puppets based on the originals! A few clips and photos:
Other stuff going on this week: Finishing up editing for the spring issue YSM (which will hopefully be out by Bulldog Days), one midterm Thursday, and packing for Jamaica! I'm sooo excited for spring break...
